how to survive

friends,

episode 508 features two songs - one is an oldie from the golden years of my analog recording days (how to survive), and the other is a current song in-process (planet of rock). my typical rambling fills the spaces between... wondering, reflecting, in circles, etc.

it's all a bit embarrassing, no doubt. which only makes your charity more uncommon, and deeply appreciated.

thank you for being here.

i hope you'll listen.

personally,

russell

our little sister

friends,

episode 507 finds me appreciating hirokazu kore-eda's film our little sister. i've been anticipating the film since its 2015 release at cannes, and it's now (finally!) out in limited u.s. distribution. i've seen it twice now, and very happily recommend it for your consideration.

i hope you'll listen and visit the links below!

see - the trailer

see - the 2015 cannes press conference

a fascinating - interview

the director - terrency malick

the film - tree of life

the director - mike leigh

the film - another year

kore-eda's interview (linked above) reminded me of my failure to mention yasujiro ozu, who, if you don't know already, is, one of the greatest-ever filmmakers. bar none. specifically, ozu's tokyo twilight, and the end of summer, feel quite relevant.

thank you for being here, sincerely.

love,

russell

indie

friends,

along with independence day in the u.s., tonight brings us to episode 505. it's a podcast inspired by the concept of freedom, as reflected through creativity, love, and their commensurate regrets.

as mentioned, astrophysicist neil degrasse tyson, his podcast startalk, the musican david byrne, and the psychologist daniel gilbert, are each deserving of your attention.

startalk with david byrne - is here

and this is the book - stumbling on happiness

i hope you'll listen.

love,

russell
